Happy Rad Tech Week 2022
ER Rad Techs Rule! But, Why?
Happy Rad Tech Week to the raddest ER techs in Texas! Let’s get the “inside” on those who look inside of us to help keep us well and why their role is particularly important during a medical emergency. First off, let’s get to know what important events triggered the creation of National Radiologic Technology Week.
Back on November 8th, 1895 German physicist Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-Rays, a discovery that would forever change the course of medicine. Prior to the x-rays, physicians had no way of seeing what was going on inside the human body, making the diagnosis a difficult task. We have come a long way in the last 122 years, our technology has advanced, and doctors are now able to obtain high-quality images of internal organs, bones, soft tissue, and blood vessels, these advances help save lives and improve patient care, but, none of it would be possible without the help of radiologic technologists.
This week the staff of Prestige ER joins the rest of the medical community in celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week or as we love to say, “Rad Tech Week”. The goal of this week-long celebration is to both honor the valuable work R.T.’s do every day and to educate the public about the important role these professionals have in emergency medicine and other fields.
The Important Role of Rad Techs
What do Radiologic Technologists Do in the Emergency Room?
Radiologic technologists, or rad techs, are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations in our ER, they are responsible for accurately positioning the patient and ensuring the quality of the images obtained from the examination. Medical imaging has come a long way since 1895, but thanks to the brilliant minds of the past, generations of rad techs have been able to save lives all over the world. For this reason, this year’s National Radiologic Technology Week® there is “Building on Our History, Creating the Future”. We appreciate the skilled rad techs that help us provide all the necessary data for our emergency physicians to make an accurate diagnosis and decide on the best treatment course.
What Qualifications do Radiologic Technologists Need?
Being a certified R.T. requires a lot of education and sacrifice, it is not only a matter of learning how to operate a specific machine. Radiologic technologists are educated in human anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety and protection protocols, and patient care.
Radiologic technologists must complete either a two-year education program in an accredited hospital-based program or complete a two or four-year academic education program. After this, they must pass a national certification examination and in order to maintain their certification valid, they must continuously earn education credits.
Technology advances every day, at Prestige ER we are continuously upgrading our equipment to offer the best possible patient care to the members of the Plano community, and every time we upgrade, our R.T.’s receive specialized training. This means our radiologic technologists are amongst the most qualified medical professionals in the city.
What Makes the R.T.’s at Prestige ER different?
Quality patient care is the number one priority at Prestige ER, and we understand that aside from the most advanced technology and renowned emergency physicians and technologists, human interaction is the most important aspect of patient care.
Our radiologic technologists are some of the best people you will ever have the pleasure of knowing, they are kind, dedicated professionals whose top priority is your wellbeing. They are esteemed members of our community and share the same values as we do.
They work long hours, under extreme pressure but, they always have a smile on their face, and a kind word on their lips, they guide, educate, and reassure patients.
